sadly true for India as well. While strides are being made to bring all govt documentation to multiple languages, if you want to buy a house in Tamil Nadu, you better be able to read (or have someone explain to you; we truly believe in middle men) Tamil and if you end buying up in Punjab, Gurmukhi better be your first language.
