@dgold I journal mostly based on my mood. If I'm angry, it really helps me calm down. It's like I'm making my case to someone and fleshing out my arguments.
If I'm in a quirky mood, I'll just take a pic or a selfie and save it. Kinda feels good.
If I'm happy or reminiscing or stuck in a fug, that comes out on the screen.
There's mental health benefits. I have bad memory and it's one of my main fears in life - to lose my memory. So this acts like a log of things I would want to remember.

@joeo10 Oh you used the desktop apps too? (which is why you'd need syncing. The new Day One comes with Sync disabled.)
I did have the Day One Classic desktop app, but of late my journaling has been only on my phone. I understand though. I've never asked the question about security and you're right about pointing it out. Seems their FAQ admits it's not yet fully secure.
"Security. We've architected Day One Sync to securely store your data. In the future, we'll be offering end-to-end encryption on top of our current server-side encryption."

@hazardwarning I know, right? The only situation here is that Facebook's tools probably locked the child's account. Otherwise, it's just one password away.

@lukasros Could I muse here that perhaps it's my third world (Indian) upbringing, which leads me to question privacy within a family, specially in a situation as this. My parents have always been rather liberal but to expect a fierce privacy is ill-founded in Indian families. I expect to continue the same with my own progeny.

@sumudu not yet. I write to my main journal once or twice a week, so I don't see the need to maintain two journals. What're you using it for?
I understand a need, perhaps, to use it to record health data. But if/when I get serious about that, I'll mainly use Apple's Health app.

@matigo I understand the 'idea' of respecting an adult's privacy, but if something like that were to happen to someone in my family, I would open their computers and log in to every social network to figure things out, privacy be damned.
