@matigo brrr!
@matigo that sounds great! I’ll look for a pass that accounts for trains! Are there private train services too or just the public one?
There’s a public bus and train pass for unlimited use that seemed very good value!
Hey @matigo what’s the preferred way to travel around Kyoto to see all the temples at the edges? From Kiyomizu-dera to Arashiyama to Kinkakuji?
Taxis seem too expensive, and it seems to be a mix of private and public buses and train/subway. Yet the Kansas Thru Pass seems rather expensive. 5300¥ for one person for three days.
@axodys I've noticed that things coming out of that sector generally trust local broadcast a lot, and lean on localized tech more than Internet-based stuff, due to bad internet infra in most countries.
For example, back in 2009ish, in India, my buddy once showed off his $60 Chinese mega-smart-phone that ran some strange software and had a pull out antenna to catch OTA TV and every-single-person-in-the-room's mind was blown.
I must say, swiping on iOS 13 is definitely faster than typing, specially in spotlight search and on the move typing. But this is only because of Apple’s first party integration. I haven’t found a single swipe keyboard on iOS ever that does it this well, which is a shame.
@matigo now thinking that it might be worth it to extend to one night in Kyoto. The temples and architecture of Higashiyama, Gion area, and any other touristy places you would recommend. Also would make it worth it to have the 7-day JR Pass 😊
Thinking of staying in a hotel Shimbashi (or is it Shinbashi?) in Tokyo. Any pointers on which are areas to avoid?
(I’m totally assuming you’re staying in some suburb of Tokyo. Don’t actually remember where you are situated.)
